If you already follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest @janeleeinteriors, hello and thanks for checking out my website.
This blog is the place to find out even more about home staging / design / organising / interior styling / trends / what's catching my eye. And, of course, how to create a sanctuary that you – or your buyers – will love to call home.
To kick off I thought you might like to see my first-ever attempt at interior design – and no, sadly that's not it in the image below!
“I've loved experimenting to make my surroundings look and feel good since I was a child. I just didn't realise at the time that it was something you could do as a career!”
Where it all began . . .
I was going through some old photos the other day and came across this one (below) of my childhood bedroom. I grew up on the South Coast and I don't remember which shop my parents took me to. But I do clearly remember that I was allowed to choose everything. I was beyond excited to be getting wallpaper, bedding, pillowcases and curtains that all MATCHED.
As you can probably tell, this was a few years (!) before the Internet, and before I'd ever clapped eyes on an interiors magazine or even a catalogue or brochure. Interior design, decluttering and home staging weren't featured on TV and I don't even remember them being mentioned - certainly not as a potential career.
I loved yellow at the time but my parents had already nabbed that for their bedroom so I went for pink (which is a surprising choice looking back as I was a real tomboy).
And here it is . . . complete with beanbag frog, Womble and a snazzy 'high-tech' cord so I could switch my light on and off without getting up. I made a bedside table out of an old cardboard box and covered it in some wallpaper that was left over after my Dad decorated.
Many interior designers, declutterers and home staging professionals I've spoken to say their passion started young: I was always rearranging and organising my bedroom. At one time or another I must have had the bed in every conceivable position, including the middle of the room! I loved the feeling of walking in and it looking completely different – and the energy that switching everything around created.
